Summary: Rana-kez lived a violent life and ended up in the realm reserved only for the most restless of the dead. It is not in his nature to yield, and especially not to the god who rules this place--but circumstances conspire to make him something more than dead and not quite alive, and the Lord of the Restless Dead is willing to make a place for him.

It was the cold, intellectual admission that there was nothing else left for him but the realms of the dead.Read more... )

There are cities between the stars. Each one like a ship in a bottle, traveling through the endless night. The world they launched from is long destroyed, but the people still survive, any way they can.

Between the artificial skies which dome their cities and the deep machines which whir along beneath their feet, their lives unfold in both strange and ordinary ways. There are gods in the deep machines, priests who keep the city running, and immortal rulers whose hands steer the cities in more ways than one.

The void of space is hostile. But the only dangers come from within.
